I am wondering what McConnell’s primarily Pro-life state of KY is thinking right now! They have been very quiet. His re-election campaign was endorsed by National Right to Life and Kentucky Right to Life. In the past, McConnell’s leadership in the Senate commanded great respect among pro-life Americans.
Now it seems he has changed his mind. McConnell is spearheading the effort to keep taxpayer funds going to Planned Parenthood which is obvious by his blocking an amendment by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, to defund the abortion provider.
McConnell simply called Lee’s amendment “out of order” because it was not relevant to the Highway Bill. Well since when does a topic “not related” stop Congress from adding pork to a bill? McConnell had the chance to actually do something about Planned Parenthood. Why did McConnell attach a provision that funds the Export-Import Bank made by Sen. Rand Paul – that wasn’t relative to the Transportation Bill.
Instead McConnell elected to go with corporatist interests and dropped the Planned Parenthood provision. If he had attached the Planned Parenthood provision, Obama would have vetoed it. But the Highway Bill doesn’t shut down the government… and Democrats would have the stark choice of supporting jobs back home or supporting Planned Parenthood. In the wake of the two videos, Planned Parenthood would have lost and it is about time.
The federal government continues to lie to the American people that they are not funding Planned Parenthood. Oh yes they are but in the form of Federal Grants – what the heck is the difference?
In case you missed it 22 years ago, Mitch McConnell was one of many Republicans who voted to lift a ban on fetal tissue donations after abortions in 1993 -- the very move that legalized Planned Parenthood's actions. In 1988, the Reagan administration began a moratorium on fetal tissue from elective abortions being used in scientific research, but Congress lifted that ban in 1993 when it passed the National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act, which allowed research on human fetal tissue regardless of whether the tissue came from a voluntary abortion.
Adding to this horror soap opera, Reps. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Fred Upton (R-Mich.), who have condemned Planned Parenthood in the past two weeks for its involvement in the practice also vote YEA in 1993 on that legislation.
The fact remains that Planned Parenthood has crossed the line as has been demonstrated in many video’s as to giving instructions on how to protect themselves and perform unsafe sex, not reporting the sexual abuse or rape of a client when they come in for an abortion and much, much more. They are nothing more than another corporate multi-million $$ corporation paying very high salaries to carry out legalized murder just because they have been able to get a small majority of American’s to believe a fetus is not a human being.
I would like to hear Cecile Richards defense for her $500K+ yearly salary and how she justifies a baby moving inside your body is not a human being until it leaves the womb. Some mother!
Americans need to be aware that McConnell and his whip Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) this past weekend purposefully launched what appears to be an unprecedented effort to duck accountability for their votes—and the votes of every other GOP member who joined with them in supporting Obama’s Iran deal and funding for Planned Parenthood.
And when it comes to voting for Republicans over Democrats in Hillary Clintons words – “What difference does it make”?
